Still

I missed last week, and this week’s entry to the Friday Fictioneers is light at a mere 41 words. But I really, really mean them.

when the chairs are folded

and the stands laid flat
and every last instrument
is fitted forever

each to their own velvety case

and the night quiets to crickets
and jasmine blooms unscented on sleeping wind
i will love you

still

  3. I think the whole point of the 100-words is that is not about quantity, but quality, and this is great. To me it portrayed longing, like ‘I’ll keep loving you no matter what, ’till the end of all.”

    1. Thanks! I wasn’t sure if I was cheating. But it seemed ‘done’, so I stopped writing. 🙂

    2. Amen, Sister. If you can say it in less than 100 words, more power to ya.

Beautiful. I can say more but your poem is so precious and fragile that I don’t want to risk spoiling it. I just want to go back and read it again.

  19. Confession. I used “Still” as a bit of inspiration for mine. This was the first time I had written my Friday Fictioneer story as a poem. After reading yours, I thought I’d try just see what kind of response I’d get. It worked! So, thank you for the muse.

  23. Lovely lovely poem. Full of sound and image and atmosphere and emotion and even a rather poignant mystery, as we don’t have a complete story. I’m not quite sure why the jasmine is blooming unscented, as the smell is very strong and sweet – like your poem! Well done, indeed! 🙂

    1. Thanks for your kind words! Good point about the jasmine (one of my favorite things). I was thinking the jasmine was unscented because no one was around to ‘scent’ it. But yeah, not sure if it works.

  29. Dear K,

This was a beautiful poem and those are words I rarely apply to such endeavors. Very well written from perfect title to serene conclusion. Music to my ears.
