Game of Drones

Tomorrow I sail. For I am Khaleesi of Customer Experience, Bluetoothed, Champion of Usability and The Bug-free.

Once in the land they call Corporatica, I shall scale that labyrinth of low-walled cubes, joust the posturing leagues of middle management and endure the spiritual famine they call the lunch meeting, I shall not fear. Yea, though the futile machinations of ambition do cause the moneyhands to wrench the profit from the margin, I shall slay Monday. And Tuesday. Wednesday. Thursday. And on that Friday I will claim my prize and dwell in the land of the positive bank balance (for at least a few days).

This has been an edition of Friday Fictioneers, hosted by Rochelle Wisoff Fields. This week’s photo courtesy Rochelle. To read more flash fiction or to submit your own, click the blue froggy button:

(this means you, Sharon & Peter)

Note: This week’s photo was especially inspiriting and I found myself writing not one, but four pieces. And of course I picked the one that had the least literal interpretation and might cause you to wonder about my grip on reality. Ah well, you should see the sort of things I write in my self evaluations  and the emails I send to senior management.

Very fun! I love the language you’ve used, especially “wrench the profit from the margin”.
Does this count as GoT “fan fiction”? 🙂

I loved this, great sense of humor. Kinda Monty Python-y. Thanks for writing it.

This gives me hope. I shall slay Monday, too, and call myself Champion of first level support. Too funny.

Oh, I really enjoyed your language here. This, especially had me grinning: “Yea, though the futile machinations of ambition do cause the moneyhands to wrench the profit from the margin, I shall slay Monday. And Tuesday. Wednesday. Thursday.”
    Great piece!

You really nailed it this week, Karen. May I print a copy to tape to the side of my monitor at work? I especially enjoyed “the spiritual famine they call the lunch meeting.”

I spent much time in Corporatica. I was known as Grunt, the unpromoted, servicer of customers and King of the keyboard. My realm stretched to the far reaches of my cubicle. I often did battle with Stinky, the unbathed and The Unreliable, Queen of Tardiness. We all lived in fear of Supervisorus, the wicked beast that wandered aimlessly through our halls with no apparent purpose other than to complain and fling assorted “e-mails” at random. It is a terrifying place.

May your paydays be plentiful and your weekends long. Hail to you, Khaleesi!

Oh to dwell with thee in the land of positive bank balance! Come Friday eve the foot soldiers of the realm of Educatius usually head down the pub for ten pints of lager and a packet of crisps.
Never seen GoT but now I feel like I have.

Lol, by the sound of your foot soldiers I think you’ve got the GoT down. Enjoy the crisps 🙂

Just brilliant. I’m going back up to read it again. I’m feeling a little smug as I relax here in the land of retirement, but I remember that other place really well. (Suppresses a cold shiver)
